News are dominated by the strong eruption of Fuego volcano, which has produced impressive and dangerous pyroclastic flows, 2-4 km tall ash columns reaching 24,000 ft (7.2 km) altitude, forced evacuation of 33,000 people yesterday. Today, explosive activity has decreased and the eruption changed to a more effusive style. Several lava flows are active on the southern flanks, threatening to cut local roads. Weak steam and sometimes ash explosions continue at Popocatépetl volcano in Mexico. Emissions occur about every 2-3 hours. Otherwise, a strong steam plume is being emitted and satellite imagery show that there is still a lot of SO2 production from the volcano. At night, glow from the crater is visible, suggesting that the lava dome continues to grow slowly. The seismic swarm at El Hierro continues with increased average magnitudes (now often around 2) and there is now a weak tremor signal as well. In addition, a second area, at about 20 km depth beneath the central part of the island has become active. A possible interpretation is that there is some magma movement in this area. Little Sitkin volcano: Another earthquake swarm with perhaps hundreds of small to medium quakes has taken place yesterday. AVO writes simply that "elevated seismicity continues" and seems not to think that an eruption could be underway. Sporadic explosions, elevated seismic activity and SO2 emissions continue at San Cristobal volcano in Nicaragua. Telica volcano emits a gas cloud rising to heights of 150 meters. In its report from 11am yesterday 13 Sep, INETER reports 100 microearthquakes during the past 12 hours. Incandescence continues to be seen in the crater. (INETER) Sakurajima volcano continues to be at elevated activity levels. Yesterday marked a record of 6 explosions (GMT time frame), the largest of which was at 21:27 GMT (or 06:27 Japan time today) and sent ash to 12,000 ft (3.7 km). 2 moderate explosions have occurred today so far. Batu Tara continues to have almost daily explosions with ash to 7,000 ft altitude. Previous news

At the moment, there are no new eruptions from San Cristobal volcano and the seismic signal looks rather quiet as well. As INETER mentions in its latest bulletin, explosions could resume, as an elevated SO2 output suggests that more magma is under way. ...
