Anak Krakatau volcano (Sunda Strait, Indonesia): active lava dome inside summit craterWednesday Aug 17, 2011 11:41 AM |
![]() The active lava dome ("dry lava lake"?) inside the crater of Anak Krakatau on 8 August (photo: Andi / VolcanoDiscovery) "Since 3 weeks ago, the instrument for monitoring anak krakatau was damaged probably caused by the big eruption 3 weeks ago, as I have seen so many quite big new bombs around the old crater. So we can not know now the seismic activity at all for the moment. Visually the current activity is lower at level 2, but likely ready to explode again in the future days ! The chronology: I went there on 7-10 Aug... since during 2 days we had no eruptions, but always we can see the glow come from the crater rim if seen from The Sertung island. I was wondering and would climb up to see what was going on inside the crater. In fact I found and seeing like a dry lava lake glowing in the central crater, rumbling and very gassing."
