Lokon volcano (North Sulawesi): powerful ash eruption on 1 May

Lokon volcano erupted again at 11:55 a.m. local time on Tuesday 1 May.
The eruption was preceded by a number of mild earthquakes over a span of two minutes and produced an ash plume 2,500 meters high.

No major eruptions have occurred during the past week. Iceland, Santorini and Etna remain quiet. In Indonesia, Krakatau and Semeru are very active, Ijen remains at high alert. Soufrière Hills on Montserrat seems to be waking up, while Puyehue in Chile's eruption is fading. ... [more]
