About this tour:

Starting from Addis Abeba, we travel northwards following the Rift Valley into the Danakil depression. We climb to Erta Ale volcano during the day using camels to bring up our equipment and food and spend 3 full days in the volcano at the lava lake.
Another 3 full days are dedicated to see the northern Danakil area with Dallol volcano with its fascinating fumaroles, amazing rock formations, crystal and mineral deposits. At the miners' town of Ahmed Ela near Lake Assale we'll watch the centuries-old ritual of salt cutting, the shaping of salt blocks and the endless caravans arriving and leaving loaded with the precious "white gold".
Excellent preparation, highly competent professional and friendly staff, close interactions with local people, delicious food prepared by our Tigrian cook will more than compensate for the hardnesses and sometimes spartanic character of living conditions we'll find ourselves in.
