Flights:

Depending on your departure airport and your choice, we can include the flight to Iceland (with our partners IcelandAir or IcelandExpress) in your package at an attractive fare for you. Depending on season, time of booking, day and routing, a return flight in economy class will cost around 450-600 EUR from most European Airports. When you make a booking (inquiry) you can let us know your preferred airport(s) and departure days, we are happy to make you an offer for the attached airfare as well.


Equipment:
Strong hiking boots!, sun protection, swimming gear, all-weather clothing including warm sweatshirt, pullover, rain jacket and trousers, day-backpack.

Visum:
None required for most nationals from Europe and N America (check with local embassy).

Vaccinations:
None needed.

Physical requirements:

Good general physical condition and preferably some hiking experience are required. The times spent on individual excursions range from 2 to up to ca. 5 hours with climbing efforts usually between 100-500 m.

Day-by-day program


Day 1
Arrival to Iceland, transfer to Reykjavík
Flight to Iceland (Keflavík). Transfer to your hotel in Reykjavík.
Accommodation: hotel in central Reykjavík.
Day 2
Reykjavík & Nationalpark Þingvellir
Drive to the panoramic platform Perlan "the pearl"; drive to the geothermal area of Nesjavellir. Drive around the lake Þingvallavatn in the national park Þingvellir. Hike through the ravine Almannagjá to our accommodation.
Accommodation: hotel at Lake Laugarvatn.(B, D)
Day 3
Hydrothermal area at Geysir, waterfall Gullfoss & the Highlands
Geysir area at Geysir, the "golden waterfall", Gullfoss, the highland route Kjölur between the glaciers Langjökull and Hofsjökull. Walk in the Hveravellir area.

Day 4
Akureyri & nature paradise Mývatn
Akureyri, the capital of northern Iceland, the "waterfall of the gods", Goðafoss, and lake Mývatn, a pearl of nature. Walk around the pseudocraters at Skútustaðir; bird-watching at the lake.
Accommodation: Guesthouse at Lake Mývatn.(B, D)
Day 5
Active volcanism
Walk in the hydrothermal area Námaskarð with its boiling mud pools and the young lava fields in the caldera of Krafla volcano. Climb the explosion crater Hverfjall. Later, a relaxing bath in the natural spa at Mývatn will restore our energies.

Day 6
National Park Jökulsárgljúfur
National Park Jökulsárgljúfur at the north coast, break  in the fishing village Húsavík. Walk in a impressive ravine to the so-called "echo rocks" Hljóðaklettar. We hike to Europe's largest waterfall, Dettifoss.
Accommodation: Guest house in Egilsstaðir. (B, D)
Day 7
basalt mountains Dyrfjöll
Drive to the 500 m high pass at Vatnsskarð with magnificent views to Dyrfjöll, the "door mountain".  Hike in the magnificent mountainous region to Stórurð, the "great landslide", a bizarre landscape with giant rock debris and turquoise blue lakes.

Day 8
The Eastfjords & Vatnajökull Glacier
Drive to the steep Ostfjords. Break in the fishing village Höfn where we visit the country and natural history museum. Drive along the massive glacier Vatnajökull to the lagoon Jökulsárlón, opportunity to take a boat tour among the floating icebergs.
Accommodation: Guest house at Skaftafell or in Kirkjubæjarklaustur. (B, D)
Day 9
National Park Skaftafell
Adventurous drive to the bird rock Ingólfshöfð (many rare birds here) on a tractor. Hike in the national park Skaftafell to the waterfall Svartifoss, which is surrounded by beautiful basalt columns.

Day 10
Coastal walk to Iceland's south point
Driving through the cooled lava flows from the giant Laki fissure eruption in 1776 (called "Eldhraun") we arrive at the village Vik at the east coast. Hike to Reynisfjall with great views on the south coast and the glacier Mýrdalsjökull. The walk ends at the raging surf on the southern coast. Stop at the waterfalls of Skógafoss.

Day 11
Þórsmörk Valley
Walk in magnificient glacial scenery in the huge gorge of Stakkholtsgjá.

Day 12
Hekla volcano - Landmannalauga
Tour along Hekla volcano until we reach the colorful mountains of Landmannalaugar. Hike through a field of volcanic glas (obsidian) to the sources of Brennisteinsalda.
Accommodation: Guest house at the thermal area Flúðir or at the village Hvolsvöllur.(B, D)
Day 13
Reykjavík
Back to Reykjavík again, completing our circle around Iceland. Explore the city and visit the national museum.

Day 14 Free day
Today is a your free disposal. You could join a day-trip to the western peninsula of Snæfellsnes. Another option is a boat-trip to the bay of Breiðafjörður, or you might take the day off to relax in the Blue Lagoon...

Departure
Own extension or transfer to the airport Keflavík & return flight.
