Arrival info:

Depends on your arrival at Athens aiport. There are two possibilities how to get to Milos. You can get a direct flight to Milos airport or you can take a ferry boat from Piraeus harbour (about 4-7 h to Milos Island). It is possible to get earlier to Athens and to stay one or more nights there for sightseeing. A hotel room in Athens is about 80-120 € a double room.

On this tour Tobias Schorr shows you the old sulfur and iron & manganese mines and the most important archaeological sites. There are also some possibilities to find minerals (baryte, sulfur, calcedon, quartz, etc.) and many impressing volcanic structures attract not only geologists and photographers. Because Milos has got the most beautyful beaches, there is always a possibility to swim in the clear sea.

Swimming breaks in particularly beautiful spots are included.

In detail: we start at the cape Vani and follow the coastline anticlockwise until the famous "Kleftiko" cliffs, made of imposing white pumice layers. In former times, fishermen and pirates were used the bizarre coast to hiding their boats in that area. The boat will bring us also to the neighbour island Kimolos where we can walk a short way to the village of Kimolos. (If it is too hot, we might just swim in the sea). In the afternoon, the boat will pass the impressive volcanic island of Glaronisia where huge basalt columns are exposed. Before returning to Adamas in the early evening, we pass the famous white pumice cliffs of Papafranga and/or Sarakiniko.

About this tour:

Milos, Kimolos and Polyaigis are geologically young volcanic islands, built during the last 1-2-million years. Hot, thermal waters have produced many important minerals such as perlite, Bentonite, caolin and baryte.
Our tour has different facettes: we visit old abandoned mines and geologically interesting places. We visit the island's important archaeological remains and see its legendary natural beauty, particularly from the sea. Tobias Schorr, your guide, has lived for a long time in Greece and visited Milos on many occasions. As professional photographer and mineral collector, he is your guarantee to get to know the island from an unusual and comprehensive perspective.
