Opening of the new volcanological museum on Nisyros island in Greece

Etna - keeping us busy with eruptions at the moment - is worth an own tour in iteself. We have now developed a new exciting program to get to know this wonderful mountain in a series of moderate to challenging hikes, including a full traverse of the mountain. A first group departure is set for 2-8 November.

Nature in the volcano of Methana

Tobias Schorr will do a presentation about the 4 Greek volcanoes (Methana, Milos, Santorini & Nisyros) at the Lette-Verein at Viktoria-Luise-Platz 6 in Berlin/Schoeneberg at 6 March 19:00. Free entrance!
 
Tobias will show many photographs of the volcanoes & nature & archaeology & people of the 4 different islands in Greece. In the end of the presentation he will also show photos of his partner Tom Pfeiffer and volcanoes like Kelud, Merapi, Anak Krakatau, Nyiragongo, Stromboli, Etna and Kilauea.
 
You will find Tobias also as official partner of the Greek island Nisyros at the tourism trade fair ITB-Berlin from 5 - 10 March at the the Greek area and the stand of KOS / Nisyros. If you want to meet him, call him at 0179-4761831.

In the center of the historic Methana volcano

We are happy to inform you that our winter tour to the Saronic gulf from December 31 to January 7 (2008) is confirmed and there are still free places to book.
Tobias Schorr will guide you the first day in Athens (ancient places and modern city live) and the following days in the region of Poros Island, Methana volcano peninsula, ancient Trizin (homeland of the mythical hero Theseus) and on Hydra Island.

We have now finished our planning for the new dates of the tours on Santorini and southern Italy in the first half of 2008. Further information is found on the individual tour pages. Have a look - we would be happy to welcome you on one of our new tours!

"Volcanoes Live! - from the "Siebengebirge" to Hawaii"

We are happy to announce and invite you to an upcoming presentation Tobias Schorr will be giving in the frame of the present exhibition "Unruhige Erde" ("Restless Earth") in Bonn. The presentation is loaded with some of our best photos and adds the perspective of leisure travel to geoscience.
The presentation starts at 18:30 in the "Zoologisches Forschungsinstitut" at the "Museum Koenig" in 53113 Bonn.

Photopresentation at 12. Decembre in Siegburg/ Germany

Tobias Schorr will present active volcanoes (with some of Toms great photos) in Europe in the bistro "Hollywood" in Siegburg.

We gladly announce two new study&walking tours we can offer you in Italy: one to the Bay of Naples from 8-15 April and a two-weeks tour of the Eolian Islands from 6-18 May 2007. Both tours will be guided by our Italian geologist Marta who is a true insider in both areas.

Tom Pfeiffer´s photo of Stromboli

Tom Pfeiffer´s volcano photo of Stromboli volcano got a title photo of all promotion material for a exhibition about the nature hazards. There will be a exhibition program of German Senkenberg nature museum in Frankfurt/Main from 29.9.06 - 19.2.2008. There are brochures, a poster and a cataloque printed with his photo at the front. Also at the official homepage of Senkenberg Museum his photo is published.

A set of photos from our recent expediton to Nyiragongo volcano has been posted. The next tour to see this unique volcano and the endangered mountain gorilllas of the Virunga volcanic chain is now set to 21-28 Jan. 2007. Details on this page.

Tom Pfeiffer, who is on his way back to Europe is planning a special tour to the active Merapi volcano in Indonesia in July. We will keep you updated. Information about the tour is found here.

On the 26 of April, 1986, co-founder of VolcanoDiscovery Tobias Schorr visited the Greek volcanic penisula Methana for his first time. It was during Easter time and turned into one of his best experiences with Greek culture & hospitality. From 1989 to 1999 Tobias Schorr has been living on Methana as photographer and organizing the first guided walking tours on the little known peninsula. Methana is still one of the most interesting areas and perfect for nature-lovers and geologists. Special tours to Methana and surroundings can be organised on request. Another good option is to book our tour to the Saronic Gulf where some excursions include visit on Methana.

Because of the recent interesting volcanic activity at Merapi and Semeru volcano on Java, we point to two tours with open spaces for last-minute individual bookings:
1) Trekking to Semeru volcano (with the option to add Bromo and Ijen to the itinerary) from 9 to 13 (16) May.
2) Krakatau to Bali 13-28 May 2006. Depending on Merapi's activity, we might change our itinerary on the spot in ordere to maximise eruption viewing at Merapi volcano. Max 2 additional participants could still join our tour.
