The strong eruption at Okmok continues based on ongoing seismic activity and satellite observations. Ash emissions continue reaching altitudes of 30,000 - 35,000 ft asl, and are posing a large hazard to all aircraft in the area.

A large explosive eruption at Okmok volcano began at approximately 11:43 AM local time on July 12 and continues. An ash cloud with a top of at least 30,000-35,000 ft. height above sea level is present.
The main mass of the ash cloud is moving southeast from the volcano, with lesser amounts of ash moving eastward. Ash fall has been reported on eastern Umnak Island and in Unalaska/Dutch Harbor.

Llaima volcano is active again. On 1 July, a lava flow was seen on the W flank prompting authorities to evacuate about 20-30 people and warn others of possible further evacuations. The lava flow descended the W flank to 800-1000 m from the crater.

Over the past weeks, activity at from Santa María's Santiaguito lava dome complex was mild to low, producing produced ash plumes rising to 4.1-4.4 km (13,500-14,400 ft) a.s.l.

Mild strombolian activity continues at Fuego volcano. Incandescent material is thrown out up to 50 m above the vent on the summit crater and a small lava flow was observed on 13 June, travelling 100 m towards the Santa Teresa ravine on the W flank. Ash plumes reach altitudes of 3.9-4.4 km (12,800-14,400 ft) a.s.l.
On 13 June, lahars caused by heavy rainfall descended the Santa Teresa (W) and Ceniza (SW) ravines.

Strombolian activity with frequent ash explosions creating plumes of up to about 1 km height continue at Anak Krakatau.
Elevated gas output and high lake temperatures continue, while volcanic tremor has declined. Unrest continues at Ruapehu and it remains unclear if this is a sign of further eruptions. The volcano last erupted on September 25 2007. The Alert Level remains at Level 1.

The eruption at Etna continues with strombolian activity from two vents in the upper part of the May 13 fissure and the emission of a lava flow into Valle del Bove.
Montag, Jun 16, 2008
The eruption at Etna volcano continues and has even increased slightly, according to observations during our recent tour (7-15 June) and informataion from INGV Catania. Two vents on the May13 fissure continue to display weak to moderate strombolian activity and feed an active lava flow into Valle del Bove, with fronts reaching 1900 m elevation, NE of the Monti Centenari.

Small pyroclastic flows and rockfall avalanches have been observed at Semeru since 22 May. The pyroclastic flows travelled a maximum distance of 2.5 km from the active crater.

Chaiten's new lava dome continues to grow rapidly inside the crater left by the sub-plinian eruption on 2 May. Over the past week, ash plumes produced by explosions rose to maximum altitude of 3 km (10,000 ft) a.s.l. and drifted SE.
SENAGEOMIN reported from overflight observations that about 2500 hectares (6,200 acres) of forest on the N and NE flanks of the volcano were burned by pyroclastic flows or lateral explosions.
The area around Chaiten remains closed. Slowly the evacuated town of Chaiten is being buried under mud flows (lahars).

As the Observatorio Vulcanológico y Sismológico de Costa Rica reports in a press bulletin, on Friday 06, June 2008 at 9:15am (15:15GMT) a large hot avalanche of unknown volume of blocky lava that had been accumulating at the summit since March 2007 rolled down the SW slopes of Arenal volcano, Costa Rica.

The present collapse provoked a scar of some 800m long from the summit to the bottom. Lose, dry, incandescent material was canalized down the slope conforming a wide chaotic fan, at aprox 900m asl. Material rolling down pulverized and generated a tall plume of gases and dust that provoked panic in tourists and park rangers located some 2 km away, on the W side.
Immediately the park was closed for the day and the tourists rapidly evacuated. No one was hurt. Dust and fine ashes deposited in a small area W and NW of the active flank. Rain rapidly diluted the fine film that was deposited on vegetation.

Sampling and measurements of the affected area was postponed for the n...

As INGV Catania reports, the mild strombolian activity and small effusion of lava from the 13 May eruptive fissure continue.
Soputan volcano started to erupt again on 6 June, producing ash plumes 2-3 km heigh and pyroclastic flows triggered by its growing lava dome that reached 4 km distance from the volcano.

As the Geophysical Institute of Ecuador reports, the eruption at Cerro Azul has resumed. A new eruptive fissure, about 400-500 long, opened on the SE flank on 3 June at 20h45 local time. Initial 60 m high lava fountaining and new lava flows were produced. The lava flows are directed towards the south coast of the island. Satellite imagery shows a 50 km long ash and gas plumes drifting north.
