Due to further increased seismic activity, stronger degassing and steaming, the Indonesian Geological Survey has raised the alert level for Ijen volcano from 2 to 3 (out of 4). A phreatic eruption could occur any time, geologists believe. The lake has changed color to white.
The last eruption was in 1993 and had produced ash plumes rising about 1000 m. [less]

The last significant activity at Lokon was in mid July, when a violent phase of ash explosions forced the evacuation of 5,000 people from 3 villages. [less]

An exclusion zone of 1 km around the crater has been established. Workers and tourists are currently not allowed to go inside the crater. [less]

There are reports of damage or fatalities. According to the news, some people from nearby villages have evacuated to safer locations, while a number remained at their homes.
No ash seems to be visible on satellite imaginary: the VAAC Darwin has not issued any advisories, suggesting that the eruption is small. On the other hand, ash is difficult to detect in tropical areas with heavy cloud cover. [less]

"As you may know Krakatau have seen a huge increase of Volcanic quakes, shallow earthquakes. Before the earthquake swarm started (before Sep 30) the rate was around 80-200 per day. When I visited the observatory the rate was around 5000, even 6000 this sunday. The people at the observatory claim they have never seen a rate like this from Krakatau, and question themselves what will come? On sunday they went to Krakatau to position two more seismograph to get more clearer data to work on.

Seismic activity and volcanic have increased recently and the lava dome of Anak Ranakah is emitting a small plume of white steam.
Very little is known about Ranakah volcano. There is only one previous eruption, which constructed Anak Ranakah lava dome in December 1987 - January 1988 during the first historic eruption of 2247 m high Ranakah volcano. The lava dome produced powerful explosions with ash plumes up to 8 km height and pyroclastic flows. [less]

"Since 3 weeks ago, the instrument for monitoring anak krakatau was damaged probably caused by the big eruption 3 weeks ago, as I have seen so many quite big new bombs around the old crater. So we can not know now the seismic activity at all for the moment. Visually the current activity is lower at level 2, but likely ready to explode again in the future days !
