Background
An unnamed subalkaline basaltic volcanic field in SW Syria, located south and SE of Damascas (Dimashq) is the SW portion of a large area mapped as containing Holocene volcanic vents. This volcanic field lies within the northern part of the massive alkaline Harrat Ash Shaam volcanic field that extends from southern Syria through NW Jordan to Saudi Arabia. The Kra lava field was radiocarbon dated at about 2880-2460 BC. The lava flow, which was erupted from NW-trending fissures and traveled 32 km to the NE, overran primitive buildings and incorporated bones from domestic animals.---
