Agung volcano news & activity updates:
Agung volcano (Bali, Indonesia): situation unchanged, increased seismic activity
Sunday Oct 08, 2017 13:38 PM | BY: T
Seismic activity at Agung volcano during the past weeks (in particular note the orange=shallow volcanic quakes) (image: PVMBG)The situation of the volcano remains unchanged and continues to be critical: based on available monitoring data, the volcano could (but not necessarily will) erupt at any time with little further precursors.
Seismic activity remains very high, if not increased further with now sometimes more than 1000 quakes per day detected, including hundreds of shallow volcanic events. It also seems that degassing at the crater has increased.
Although nobody can predict whether an eruption will actually occur and if so when, the restrictions to keep out of the volcano in a large radius should remain in place. Approaching (or climbing) the mountain under current circumstances is nothing else than Russian roulette.
