Alaid volcano (Kuriles Islands, Russia): probably new strombolian eruption in summit crater

A new eruptive phase has possibly started at the volcano in late September. On 28 Sep, VAAC Tokyo reported elevated seismic activity and a possible ash plume that could rise to 18,000 ft (6 km) altitude from the volcano (but was not detected on satellite imagery).
Thermal signals were detected on satellite data since 1 Oct, suggesting a strong heat source in the summit crater, where a strombolian-type eruption could be the cause.
