The northernmost of the volcanoes in the Kurile arc continues to show signs of weak activity in the form of a thermal anomaly at the summit crater.

A new eruptive phase has possibly started at the volcano in late September. On 28 Sep, VAAC Tokyo reported elevated seismic activity and a possible ash plume that could rise to 18,000 ft (6 km) altitude from the volcano (but was not detected on satellite imagery). Read all
