Arenal Volcano continued its rest during February 2012 and showed only gas emissions as activity, the latest monthly report of OBSICORI summarizes.
According to reports from the residents of La Palma on the northern flank and from Castillo on the SW flank, they have not heard nor observed any activity. Only a small section in the upper northeast part of the active crater C showed small gas and steam emissions.
The old crater D showed fumarolic activity, with low emissions of fumes and gases. On February 15, 2012 measurements of CO2 and H2S emissions from vents at the crater floor did not show significant changes, nor the measurements of diffuse emission of CO2 and H2S in the western sector of the volcano, nor those near the hot springs.
