Another small eruption occurred this morning at the Nakadake crater. An ash plume rose a few hundred meters from one of the active vents. During the night, incandescence is visible at the crater:

Activity at the volcano has decreased although the Nakadake crater with its 2 active vents continues to emit an abundant steam plume, mixed perhaps sometimes with dilute ash. Glow can no longer be seen at night, or at least it has become extremely weak. [more]

The volcano had a small eruption from the Nakadake crater today. On the following webcam video for the past 30 hours, a strong increase in activity can be noted during the past 12 hours. The Japan Meteorological Agency reported in its latest activity summary (for September 2013) a seismic crisis that started on 23 September evening. Mild explosive activity with ash emissions continue at Aso volcano, producing plumes rising to altitudes of 1.5-2.1 km (5,000-7,000 ft) a.s.l. A more violent explosion on 18 May sent a plume to 3 km (10,000 ft) altitude. [more]
