The Volcanic Alert Level of the volcano was raised from Level 2 (valid from 12 December 2021) to Level 3, as an increase of volcanic earthquakes has been registered over the past three days.
Quakes started to be more frequent on 9 May, of which 88 have been located at shallow levels. Earthquakes have continued to pick up in numbers and became shallower on the next day as the seismic network detected 90 shallow quakes which may indicate elevated fluid movements of gas, water and possibly magma under the surface fracturing the rock.
On 11 May at 15:00 local time, emissions of gas and steam were observed rising about 30 meters above the crater.
The warning bulletin states that ballistic impacts of volcanic bombs, pyroclastic flows and/or likelihood of significant phreatic eruption could affect an area of about 3,5 km distance from the crater.
