Strombolian to vulcanian-type explosive activity continues at the volcano, sometimes strong enough to produce plumes visible on satellite imagery.
VAAC Darwin reported an ash plume to 6000 ft (1.8 km) altitude that extended 90 km W from the volcano yesterday.

The activity at the volcano remains intense. We visited Batu Tara from 30 June - 4 July on our recent Volcano Special tour
and observed strombolian eruptions of varying intensity at intervals ranging between 10 and 50 minutes. ...

The volcano had explosions that produced ash plumes that rose to 8,000 ft (2.4 km) altitude and drifted 80 km to the west today.

An ash plume to 8,000 ft was again reported yesterday. Activity at the volcano is probably elevated at the moment good news for our upcoming volcano expeditions
