Seismic signal of this morning's eruption at Bogoslof (recorded on MSW station on Makushin volcano about 60 km to the E (AVO)
After a pause of almost two months with no detected significant activity, the volcano produced another large explosion last night from 22:32 local time (06:32 this morning UTC). The explosive eruption lasted 73 minutes and generated an ash plume that rose to approx. 34,000 ft and moved southwest.
The Aviation Color Code of Bogoslof was raised to RED and the Alert Level to WARNING.
According to the Alaska Volcano Observatory, "Bogoslof volcano remains at a heightened state of unrest and in an unpredictable condition. Additional explosions producing high-altitude volcanic clouds could occur at any time. Low-level explosive activity that is below our ability to detect in our data sources may be occurring. These low-level explosions could pose a hazard in the immediate vicinity of the volcano."
