The volcano remains very active with intermittent short-lived, but strong explosive eruptions every few days, something that has now been going on for more than 6 months.
Another pulse of activity occurred this morning, after a pause of 2 days: a first explosion occurred at 07:47 UTC on July 9 (23:47 local time on July 9) and lasted about 5 minutes, followed 15 minutes later by a second explosion that lasted about 7 minutes.
The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) detected a small ash cloud that drifted southeast, at up to 30,000 ft altitude (9 km). The Aviation Color Code of Bogoslof was again raised to RED and the Volcano Alert Level to WARNING.
Traces of ashfall could occur on Unalaska, but are unlikely to affect Dutch Harbor. (AVO)
