Chirinkotan volcano (Northern Kuriles, Kuril Islands) activity update
Friday Nov 22, 2013 09:43 AM | BY: T
SVERT reported that during 13-15 November a thermal anomaly over Chirinkotan was observed, as well as steam-and-gas emissions during 14-15 November.

Some eruptive activity has been continuing throughout the past month at the remote volcano in the Kuriles. Various satellite data collected during the months of August and September show the presence of a strong thermal signal (perhaps a lava lake) and a gas and steam plume, which might contain at least small amounts of ash. ... Volcanoes in the Solar System
: The Earth is not the only place with volcanic activity. Active volcanism also occurs at at least 3 other bodies in our Solar System.
Latest quakes at Katla volcano
: One of Iceland's most active and dangerous volcanoes is showing signs of unrest and statistically due for a new eruption. Earthquakes could give a clue.
Introduction to Plate Tectonics
: The Earth's upper, rigid layer is broken into several plates which are in constant motion to one another. Most earthquakes and volcanoes occur as result of these plate boundaries.
