Chirinkotan volcano (Kuriles, Russia): ash emissions during 26 July

Ash emissions were recorded on satellite imagery on 26 July, producing a plume that rose to 15,000 ft (4.5 km) altitude and drifted NW. During yesterday and today, the plume dissipated and no new emissions were detected (VAAC Tokyo).

Ash emissions from small explosions at the volcano were detected on satellite imagery last Monday (20 July). The ash plumes rose to estimated 12,000 ft (4 km) altitude and drifted SE.

SVERT reported that during 19-21 March a thermal anomaly over Chirinkotan was detected in satellite images. The Aviation Color Code was raised to Yellow on 20 March.

SVERT noted that weak steam-and-gas emissions were observed in January and February, but that no volcanic activity was currently observed; the Aviation Color Code was lowered to Green.
