The cones are forested, but have relatively intact craters and seem not to have been eroded by glacial action, suggesting that they are younger than 11,000 years.Lava flows from Cinnamon Butte pass through gaps of moraines. All 3 cones are covered by the roughly 6845-year-old marker layer Mazama Ash (from the formation of nearby Crater Lake caldera).
Other, older cinder cones and a lava dome are located nearby, mostly west of the Cascade Range crest.
