In this photo released by the civil defense unit of the state government of Jalisco, the eruption plume from the initial stage of the powerful vulcanian explosion at Colima volcano on May 23, 2005, has been captured on film. The collapsing eruption column loaded with ash and rock fragments has not yet fully developed, but the flanks of the volcano are already covered by the impacts of ballistics. Volcano news: Colima Volcano (Mexico)
Colima volcano (Western Mexico) activity update
Freitag Aug 21, 2015 09:00 | VON: T
Ash plume from Colima this morning
Explosions every few hours continue to occur, sending plumes of ash to 2-3 km above the volcano's summit crater.
Dienstag, Aug 18, 2015
Explosive activity continues with sometimes relatively strong eruptions every few hours.
Dienstag, Aug 11, 2015
Explosions remain frequent and sometimes intense. Ash columns rise up to 2 km from the crater. ...
Freitag, Aug 07, 2015
Explosive activity has resumed at the volcano since early August. ...
Freitag, Jul 17, 2015
Activity remains exclusively effusive, and overall seems to be decreasing. The lava flow on the southern flank continues to advance slowly, approx. 200 meters per day. Rockfalls from other areas of the crater have been more rare than during the previous day. ...
Colima volcano is one of the most active in North America and one of the potentially most dangerous ones. It has had more than 30 periods of eruptions since 1585, including several significant eruptions in the late 1990s. Scientific monitoring of the volcano began 20 years ago.
The Colima volcanic complex is the most prominent volcanic center of the western Mexican Volcanic Belt. It consists of two southward-younging volcanoes, Nevado de Colima (the 4320 m high point of the complex) on the north and the 3850-m-high historically active Volcán de Colima at the south.
A group of cinder cones of probable late-Pleistocene age is located on the floor of the Colima graben west and east of the Colima complex. Volcán de Colima (also known as Volcán Fuego) is a youthful stratovolcano constructed within a 5-km-wide caldera, breached to the south, that has been the source of large debris avalanches. Major slope failures have occurred repeatedly from both the Nevado and Colima cones, and have produced a thick apron of debris-avalanche deposits on three sides of the complex. Frequent historical eruptions date back to the 16th century. Occasional major explosive eruptions (most recently in 1913) have destroyed the summit and left a deep, steep-sided crater that was slowly refilled and then overtopped by lava dome growth.

Eruption from close
: On 17 Oct, explosions were particularly violent at Anak Krakatau. We show a series of images of a spectacular explosion captured from close range by boat.
Ambrym+Yasur volcanoes in Vanuatu
: An adventurous expedition to some of the most spectacular and active volcanoes in the world! Our volcano expedition to Vanuatu lets you spend 1 week on Ambrym with its multiple active lava lakes and 4 days on Yasur, famous for its spectacular fireworks. Guided by professional volcanologist, small groups (May-Sep).
: In the afternoon of 17 Oct, a particularly violent explosion occurred at Anak Krakatau, blasting away a portion of the southern crater rim. A similar event might have been the final trigger for the catastrophic landslide that let the cone collapse and cause a devastating tsunami on 22 Dec 2018.
