MODIS thermal anomaly at Copahue (summarized data from 28-30 Dec)
Visual and seismic activity have decreased at Copahue and no more ash emissions or incandescence have been observed since 29 Dec. It is thought that the small eruption that had started on 22 Dec has ended. It has emplaced a small body of lava (a lava dome) inside the crater which is now cooling, but still visible as a thermal anomaly on MODIS satellite data. ...mehr

: In the afternoon of 17 Oct, a particularly violent explosion occurred at Anak Krakatau, blasting away a portion of the southern crater rim. A similar event might have been the final trigger for the catastrophic landslide that let the cone collapse and cause a devastating tsunami on 22 Dec 2018.
