Numerous aftershocks
So far, at least 14 aftershocks have occurred, many of them felt by the population. They include 5 quakes of magnitudes between 5 and 6.1. Many more can be expected in the coming days to weeks.

A very large and potentially dangerous magnitude 7 quake hit off Chile's Pacific coast approx. 55 km north of the Huasco town (pop. 9000) in the Atacama Region earlier this morning, at 00:09 local time.
According to the Chilean Seismological Institute, the magnitude of the quake was 7.0 although USGS and other agencies now report a magnitude of only 6.8 (which is 2 times weaker than a 7.0). The hypocenter depth of the quake was around 30 km.
Fortunately, no tsunami was generated by the quake.
Also, since no major populated centers are in the area close to the epicenter where strong ground shaking occurred, no major damage should have occurred, and so far, only minor damages have actually been reported.
The earthquake was felt in vast parts of central-northern Chile and nearby parts of western Argentina, in distances exceeding 500 km.

  • Hay varias razones por las cuales puede ser difícil mantenerse en pie durante un sismo una (la principal) es la fuerza bruta o el sacudimiento propiamente tal, otra puede ser el acoplamiento de ciertas ondas sísmicas que ocurren a magnitudes menores y entorpecen los procesos cerebrales, digamos que se acoplan a las ondas de esa longitud y provocan pérdida del sentido de el equilibrio y distorsión de la percepción, sería bueno conocer cuál era la razón predominante, tranquilidad amigos piensen que por más de dure y sea fuerte pasará.
