  • Initially, I thought the resounding whoosh accompanied by a rapidly commencing and ending thunderous boom which also shook the foundation. I did not immediately equate this phenomena with seismic a activity. I opine that clandestine military maneuvers are responsible.

It felt like the pressure wave from a very large explosion. VERY short duration, double boom, first boom was much smaller than 2nd. Like an earthquake but in the air, We thought maybe there was an explosion although there was no sound of explosion all the neighbors felt it and from what I understand even people miles away I know this potentially caused a big accident it caused a bus to lose control and turnover and there were fatalities over in Rosarito by Popotla.

I ran outside to see if anyone was on our roof but nothing. There wouldn't be any way for them to do it anyhow. It didn't seem like it actually was either one, but I thought of a sonic boom, when it happened. It lasted longer than I expected. I was sitting in my living room. I thought it was the title and run down the block from me, where a car hit a gas line.

Fairmont Park, San Diego, CA (13.3 km SSE of epicenter) [Map] / Weak shaking (MMI III) / rattling, vibrating / 1-2 s : It felt as though a fully loaded 18-wheeler drove very fast past the house. I was sitting with noise cancelling headphones on, listening to music, and heard and felt a short, strong rumble. I was holding my family's guinea if on my lap and she tensed at the sound, raising her head in alarm and picking up her ears.

Downtown San Diego, Front Street. In my apartment (14.2 km S of epicenter) [Map] / Weak shaking (MMI III) / rattling, vibrating / 1-2 s : We felt a short rattle and rumble. Thought might have been a quake, but then just assumed maybe the neighbor in the apartment downstairs was just noisy about closing their porch slider.  
Bankers Hill - 92103 (11.4 km S of epicenter) [Map] / Light shaking (MMI IV) / single lateral shake / very short : It was fast, loud and intense. Only lasted a second or two but very loud even with TV on. Have been in Northridge earthquake as well as many lessor quakes and this was different. This was the loudest and the ‘jolt’ was intense for a second only. Actually thought maybe a car drove into the building below.  
Chula Vista, CA8 (23.3 km SSE of epicenter) [Map] / Light shaking (MMI IV) / rattling, vibrating / 10-15 s : A very loud knocking/beating noise from my ceiling in hallway. As tho construction was being done the floor above me.  
Soderblom Avenue,West University City near Hwy 52 (6.9 km W of epicenter) [Map] / Light shaking (MMI IV) / single vertical bump / 2-5 s : Felt like an explosion; no real sensation of shaking, just a boom. Kind of like a sonic boom but was hard to tell.  
Erlanger St, San Diego, CA (4.7 km WNW of epicenter) [Map] / Weak shaking (MMI III) / 2-5 s : Glass doors rattle a certain way when there is a quake and if one is in living room... they rattled stronger and longer than other times, yet sitting in chair 2 of us did not feel actual shaking. Nothing else but a quake can make glass doors rattle like that. When I looked at clock just after, it was 8:18 PM.

Spring valley (20.5 km SE of epicenter) [Map] / Very weak shaking (MMI II) / single lateral shake / 1-2 s : Light shake, but sounded like someone falling on a wooden floor. My wife and I both searched for each other to see if one of us had fallen or run into something.  
Santee / Very weak shaking (MMI II) / very short : Boom! Checked Camp Pendleton website. "Firing High Explosive Munitions, June 5-11, 2021". That's it.

South Escondido California 92027 (29 km N of epicenter) [Map] / Light shaking (MMI IV) / single lateral shake / 2-5 s : Garage doors and inside closed door to a bedroom closest to the garage shook hard and loud. Location: West side of house. The rest of the house did not shake. This type of event has happened before where the garage door and one bedroom door is heard which is the loudest & shakes hard.  
Mission Viejo, CA (100.1 km NNW of epicenter) [Map] / Very weak shaking (MMI II) / 2-5 s : Front doors rattled for a few brief seconds. Sounded like the beginning of many past earthquakes however it wasn’t followed by shaking that I could feel. Was more of a sound than a shake or roll.  
Mira Mesa (12.7 km NW of epicenter) [Map] / Light shaking (MMI IV) / single vertical bump / 5-10 s : It felt like a big jolt. I thought something had hit the outside of the house . Almost went outside to look.  
Logan Heights (15 km S of epicenter) [Map] / Light shaking (MMI IV) / vertical swinging (up and down) / 1-2 s : The doors shook and the blinds slammed into the window as if there had been a very strong gust of wind. My mom said she felt like the ground dropped, like the feeling you get when a rollercoaster is going down. Everything only lasted around 2 seconds. We called a neighbor who lives in the building next to us to see if they felt anything and they said did.  
Paradise hills San Diego (20 km SSE of epicenter) [Map] / Moderate shaking (MMI V) / single vertical bump / very short : Sounded more like an explosion than an earth quake. The whole neighborhood was outside. My roof shook but not my floors  
Scripps ranch (11.6 km NE of epicenter) [Map] / Weak shaking (MMI III) / rattling, vibrating / 2-5 s : Doors and windows rattled. Sounded like someone violently wiggling our doorknobs. Loud noise but no obvious shaking.  
Serra Mesa, San Diego (4.2 km SSE of epicenter) [Map] / Moderate shaking (MMI V) / complex motion difficult to describe / 1-2 s : Heard while walking outside. Sounded like loud explosion or sonic boom followed by a series of shock wave sounds coming from the south west direction. The ground shook in unison with the shock wave sounds.  
3531 Antiem street (3.5 km S of epicenter) [Map] / Light shaking (MMI IV) / rattling, vibrating / 1-2 s : Sounded like a jet flying over but way to fast. It was over before I could figure even what was going on.  
SAN DIEGO (10.7 km SE of epicenter) [Map] / Weak shaking (MMI III) / 1-2 s : I felt brief North-South movement for about a second or two in my office upstairs in our home. My computer monitor wobbled just a little bit north-south. A curtain next to it with an open wave a little once. My daughter in the downstairs of the house felt a little something. Our "seismograph" of a big, hanging ornament in one corner downstairs was not rocking any. It will usually be rocking a little after a quake. :-)

Platinum place Lakeside Ca 94020 (21.9 km NE of epicenter) [Map] / Moderate shaking (MMI V) / rattling, vibrating / 10-15 s : I was outside, there was a loud boom sound then rumbling like what you would expect from an explosion. Then the ground shook and vibrated. Strong vibrations up my legs. Then about 6-7 minutes later there was another smaller one. Same characteristics. I believe was an Aftershock.

Coronado, CA / Light shaking (MMI IV) / rattling, vibrating / very short : My cats Oni, TJ, GF and I all heard a loud boom that sounded like someone dropped something in the upstairs apartment. We thought the noise was from either from upstairs, a military craft. Minor noise minor shaking.

This was a Sonic boom of massive power and I felt an immediate ringing and vibrating in my head and body. The home door and windows near me shook and I heard a crack in the door frame.  
San Diego, CA / not felt : Heard it rattle the door and spooked my dog.. we both looked at the door and window.. but the water and lights that are near the door did not move did not move. Weird...  
San Diego Christian College / Weak shaking (MMI III) / both vertical and horizontal swinging / 1-2 s : First I heard a boom sound NW of San Diego Christian College in Santee a short distance away. Been hearing these boom sounds in the same area for a week. Sometimes a series but last night just one boom sound. A few seconds later the ground moved from left to right then downward. It felt like I landed on rubber because it was a soft landing thud. I was sitting outside on the grass.

Lemon Grove CA / not felt : Yes! I was seated in recliner chair and heard a very loud boom or bang and such a sensation of impact that I thought a tree had fallen on my house. I got up and looked out front door and saw no one else at their door, but when I looked out western window, that neighbor was outside looking east at my house.  
4600 Campus Ave San Diego CA 92116 / Light shaking (MMI IV) / single vertical bump / 5-10 s : It sounded & felt like a bomb blast about 5 to 10 miles away, not an earthquake. House "heaved" and shook briefly. Was the Navy testing explosives offshore?  
92139 / Moderate shaking (MMI V) / very short : It was a loud bang. I was upstairs taking my baby a bath. The sound was so loud. It sounded as if someone had slammed a door as hard as they could. Or if someone fall out of bed from upstairs really hard or something. My husband even ran upstairs to check on the baby and i. Thinking a big peace of furniture fall on the floor or something worse. It was a strange sounds.

SAN DIEGO 92139 / Weak shaking (MMI III) / very short : I did not hear a boom but my bedroom window rattled and the curtains shook like they were hit with a blast. Nothing else in my room moved that I could tell. I did not feel any shaking either or if there was shaking it was very mild and very short, gone before I even realized it.  
92078 / not felt : Did not feel or hear anything. Was outside, kids were playing. Ive asked around and none of my neighbors felt/heard it either.

3346 Lockwood Drive San Diego Ca 92123 / Moderate shaking (MMI V) / single vertical bump / 1-2 s : A loud boom with one strong jerk. Felt like no earthquake I’ve ever felt, heard or seen Scary! It seemed like it was all around us and underneath us at the same time. The loud Booming shudder was only a few seconds but felt like much longer due to the intensity of the noise. Never felt anything else like it. More intense than I’ve ever experienced.  
Carlsbad, CA 92009 / Weak shaking (MMI III) / rattling, vibrating / 15-20 s : I heard a boom and some rattling. At first I thought the Marines were playing war games but this lasted longer than normal, that’s when I realized that it was an actual earthquake.

92123, home, behind Walmart off of Aero Drive / not felt : I was laying in bed and did not feel the quake but heard a loud bang like someone hit my house. I did suspect it was an earthquake and paused for a second to see if anything in my room was moving, but didn’t notice anything. Was too tired and lazy to check to see if someone indeed hit the house.

It happened at the same time as a helicopter flying overhead and was over so fast that I wasn't even sure if I felt it or if it was separate from the chopper. My husband didn't feel it hear it as we were watching tv.

Arizona St, San Diego 92104 near Morley Field / Light shaking (MMI IV) / rattling, vibrating / 5-10 s : I was sitting by the front windows of out 1st floor apartment. The window on my side, the left of large sliding windows, started to rattle intensely. Then dogs began to bark at nearby houses. It lasted about 5-10 seconds. Me and my son, sitting on the couch, both heard it & felt the vibrations. We thought it was an earthquake.

Bay Park in San Diego,CA 92117 / Weak shaking (MMI III) / 5-10 s : I was sitting in living room (on the second floor of a building with condominiums) watching TV. I felt a general vibration or shaking that may have been accompanied by noise. I wondered if something (like a car crash?) might have happened outside. But then I realized it was probably an earthquake and decided to check about this later, when the TV show was over (which I did). I did not notice any objects swaying or moving inside.

I've felt many earthquakes in my life and rarely this one felt weird, like if the vibration came from air waves. Is the military testing a new weapon?

Lanston Street, San Diego 92111 / Very weak shaking (MMI II) / single vertical bump / very short : I was in a bedroom doors and windows shut, windows and air conditioner just made a loud pop like when a door is slammed shut and rattles with a slight difference in air pressure. I was startled more from the sound then weird air pressure, thought someone slammed our front door.  
Coronado / Very weak shaking (MMI II) / very short : Short, sharp jolt. Oddly I had a vase if fresh lilies next to me and I suddenly smelled them, in a good way, very shortly after the quake. (and I have a very poor sense of smell) There was also a sharp rattle of the windows.  
Paradise Hills at home / Moderate shaking (MMI V) / rattling, vibrating / 1-2 s : Felt like,and sounded like something heavy had fallen on the roof of the house. The whole house vibrated, but it was really loud, fast and only lasted about one to two seconds.  
San Diego / Very weak shaking (MMI II) / single vertical bump / 1-2 s : We heard a loud boom followed by shaking on one side of the house. It sounded like someone was trying to break in the side of our house. When we went outside neighbors said they heard the loud boom and thought someone was trying to break in their house too.  
Del Mar / Very weak shaking (MMI II) / rattling, vibrating / 2-5 s : Leaning on a window door and felt it shake a few times in two increments, thought the dog was nudging on the door until my roommate asked if I felt it too which is when I realized my dog wasn’t there and it was in earthquake  
Rancho Santa Fe / Very weak shaking (MMI II) / rattling, vibrating / 5-10 s : It was loud. Very little movement. More like someone was violently trying to break down the door. No chandelier movement. Animals were spooked. No damage.  
Coronado / Very weak shaking (MMI II) / 1-2 s : Think it was a sonic boom not watch quake. Very loud almost like this under right above us. Did not skate like a normal earthquake.  
Spring Valley / Very weak shaking (MMI II) / single lateral shake / very short : Loud boom and swift lateral impact. Felt like something hit the side of our house. No swaying. If it weren’t for the sound we probably would not have known.  
Serra Mesa / Moderate shaking (MMI V) / single vertical bump / 1-2 s : Did not feel like an earthquake. More like a sonic boom. House shook for a second like someone had hit the house.  
92126 / not felt : It was more heard than felt. Similar to sounds reported by others and heard myself earlier this spring. Lasted just a couple seconds almost like a light thunder.  
Imperial Beach / Very weak shaking (MMI II) / rattling, vibrating / very short : Heard a kind of boom and then it felt as though someone slammed a door. I thought either that or something fell.  
92104 / Light shaking (MMI IV) / rattling, vibrating / 1-2 s : I just moved from Northern California, and it didn't feel like any of the quakes I felt there (typically 4 to 4.5). This was more like a truck going by but more sonic than terrestrial. The windows rattled very loudly, but there was no rolling or jolt.  
Tierrasanta, 92124 / Very weak shaking (MMI II) / single vertical bump / very short : I'm a Californian of 45 years and I don't remember feeling a quake like this. Sudden jolt of energy that was intense but weirdly enough there was no real shaking. Honestly wondering if our military friends in Miramar were testing something.  
92111 / not felt : Heard loud sound like something fell outside. Thought it was a package delivery?? Very quick and over...thankfully!

South Mission Hills, San Diego CA / Light shaking (MMI IV) / rattling, vibrating / 2-5 s : It sounded like someone was banging or pounding on the door and I thought it might be a sonic boom. The windows were shaking. There was a huge initial boom followed by banging and then windows shaking. The boom and banging was 2-3 seconds and then maybe 3 seconds more of shaking. Then a minute later there was weaker shaking of windows. I thought that either a navy aircraft caused it and was flying farther away, or else it was an earthquake.
