Ein Beben der Stärke 4.8 ereignete sich nur vor 11 Minuten in der Nähe von Alaska City (Anchorage, Alaska) in Alaska, USA, wie der United States Geological Survey berichtete. Laut Angaben des Instituts, das als die wichtigste nationale und internationale Agentur für seismische Tätigkeit in den USA gilt, ereignete sich das Beben am Montag, dem 11. Juli 2022, spät abends um 23:24 Lokalzeit in einer mäßigen Tiefe von 54 km unter dem Epizentrum. Die Stärke, genaue Lage des Epizentrums und Erdbebentiefe können in den nächsten Stunden noch korrigiert werden, während Seismologen die Daten manuell auswerten und ihre Berechnungen verfeinern.
Eine zweite Agentur, das Deutsche GeoForschungsZentrum in Potsdam (GFZ), gab das Erdbeben ebenfalls mit einer Stärke von 4.8 an. Eine dritte Agentur, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, gab die Stärke des Bebens als 4.8 an.
Anhand der vorläufigen seismischen Daten sollte das Beben keine Schäden angerichtet haben. Es könnte allerdings von vielen Menschen in der Nähe des Epizentrums als leichte Vibration spürbar gewesen sein.
Folgende Orte in der Nähe des Epizentrums wurden wahrscheinlich vom Beben betroffen: Tyonek (170 Einw. in 17 km Entfernung, leichtes Bodenschütteln zu erwarten), Nikiski (4,500 Einw. in 37 km Entfernung, leichtes Bodenschütteln), Sterling (5,600 Einw. in 48 km Entfernung, leichtes Bodenschütteln), Ridgeway (2,000 Einw. in 49 km Entfernung, leichtes Bodenschütteln), Kenai (7,700 Einw. in 50 km Entfernung, leichtes Bodenschütteln), Alaska City (298,700 Einw. in 61 km Entfernung, leichtes Bodenschütteln), Kalifornsky (7,900 Einw. in 64 km Entfernung, leichtes Bodenschütteln), Eagle River (24,800 Einw. in 82 km Entfernung, sehr leichtes Vibrieren), Eagle River (24,800 Einw. in 82 km Entfernung, sehr leichtes Vibrieren) und Knik-Fairview (14,900 Einw. in 92 km Entfernung, sehr leichtes Vibrieren).
