Ein Beben der Stärke 4.8 ereignete sich nur vor 12 Minuten in der Nähe von San Isidro (Pérez Zeledón, Provincia de San José) in Costa Rica, wie das Deutsche GeoForschungsZentrum in Potsdam (GFZ) berichtete. Laut Angaben des Instituts, das als eine der wichtigsten internationalen Agenturen für seismische Tätigkeit weltweit gilt, ereignete sich das Beben am Samstag, dem 3. September 2022, nach Mitternacht um 00:53 Lokalzeit in einer mäßigen Tiefe von 41 km unter dem Epizentrum. Die Stärke, genaue Lage des Epizentrums und Erdbebentiefe können in den nächsten Stunden noch korrigiert werden, während Seismologen die Daten manuell auswerten und ihre Berechnungen verfeinern.
Auch the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake meldete das Erdbeben und gab ebenfalls eine Stärke von 4.8 an. Eine dritte Agentur, das European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), gab die Stärke des Bebens als 4.6 an.
Anhand der vorläufigen seismischen Daten sollte das Beben keine Schäden angerichtet haben. Es könnte allerdings von vielen Menschen in der Nähe des Epizentrums als leichte Vibration spürbar gewesen sein.
Folgende Orte in der Nähe des Epizentrums wurden wahrscheinlich vom Beben betroffen: Daniel Flores (10,000 Einw. in 44 km Entfernung, leichtes Bodenschütteln zu erwarten), San Isidro (34,900 Einw. in 45 km Entfernung, leichtes Bodenschütteln), Tejar (22,400 Einw. in 87 km Entfernung, sehr leichtes Vibrieren), Paraiso (39,700 Einw. in 90 km Entfernung, sehr leichtes Vibrieren), Cartago (26,600 Einw. in 93 km Entfernung, sehr leichtes Vibrieren), Aserri (25,900 Einw. in 94 km Entfernung, sehr leichtes Vibrieren), San Miguel (28,800 Einw. in 95 km Entfernung, sehr leichtes Vibrieren), Curridabat (34,600 Einw. in 99 km Entfernung, sehr leichtes Vibrieren) und San Jose (335,000 Einw. in 102 km Entfernung, sehr leichtes Vibrieren).

  • The dogs in our area started barking approximately 2 minutes before the shaking, based on the reports, they started barking right when the earthquake first struck. I noticed it and gave it a laugh because they always bark at the most inconvenient times but when the bed shook, I realized why they were barking. They stopped shortly after the shaking happened.
