Fuego volcano (Guatemala) activity update

Wednesday Jan 15, 2014 16:56 PM | VON: T

Fuego volcano this morning
Fuego volcano this morning
Activity remains elevated with abundant lava ejected to 75-125 m height during occasional moderately strong strombolian explosions that are followed by ash plumes rising up to about 700 m and drifting approx. 10 km to the S and SW. Rumblings like locomotive-engine sounds lasting 2-5 minutes accompany the degassing during the eruptions. The lava flow on the SE slope towards the Trinidad canyon reached 300 meters length this morning and produced small glowing avalanches.
Vorherige Nachrichten
Tuesday, Jan 14, 2014
Activity continues at moderate levels as during the past days. INSIVUMEH counted 13 moderate explosions with shock waves and ash plumes rising 300-800 m. The lava flow on the upper southern slope towards the Trinidad drainage was 300 m long this morning. [mehr]
Monday, Jan 13, 2014
[Update] The volcano observatory observed an increase in explosions and a new lava flow. Shock waves from explosions could be felt in up to 15 km distance and they eject abundant lava onto the upper slopes. ... [mehr]
Current seismic signal of Fuego (FG3 station, INSIVUMEH)
Friday, Jan 10, 2014
Seismic activity has decreased at the volcano, suggesting that the latest surge in lava emission (both as larger-than-usual strombolian explosions and lava flow) is over. [mehr]
Seismic signal of Fuego today (FG3 station, INSIVUMEH)
Thursday, Jan 09, 2014
Activity remained elevated, but decreased a bit today, judging from the seismic signal. The volcano observatory reported moderate explosions with shock waves that ejected incandescent bombs to 200 m above the crater and left abundant incandescent avalanches on the upper crater. Associated ash plumes rose up to 1000 m and drifted 10 km before dissipating. The new lava flow towards the Ceniza drainage was 400 m long this morning. [mehr]
The lava flows on Fuego volcano this morning
Wednesday, Jan 08, 2014
Another surge of (mainly effusive) activity occurred yesterday. The observatory detected an increase in tremor and lava flow emission, as well as moderate to strong explosions with shock waves felt in up to 15 km distance, where they rattled roofs and windows in Panimache, Morelia and other areas to the eastern side of the volcano. ...
