BeschreibungLompobatang, located at the southern tip of Sulawesi, is a Pleistocene volcano whose products range from 2.3 to 0.8 Ma in age. Two rock suites dominate these products: 1) Potassic alkali basalts, trachybasalts, and trachyandesites, and 2) more evolved silica-oversaturated lavas such as shoshonites, banakites, and latites (Leterrier et al., 1990). Lompobatang is large and relatively well-preserved, with an elevation of 2860 m and a basal diameter of about 55 km (Leterrier et al., 1990).
