Nevado del Ruiz Vulkan: Nachrichten

Nevado del Ruiz volcano (Colombia) activity update: intense degassing, seismic unrest

Mittwoch Jan 22, 2014 09:11 | VON: T

Current seismic signal from Nevado del Ruiz volcano (OLL station, INGEOMINAS)
Current seismic signal from Nevado del Ruiz volcano (OLL station, INGEOMINAS)
Preceding seismic signal last night
Preceding seismic signal last night
No major changes have occurred over the past week. The volcano produces intense degassing, with steam/gas plumes rising up to 2.5 km above the crater. Seismic activity has remained similar to past weeks at fluctuating low to medium levels.
Most seismic activity observed is related to internal rock fracturing (volcano-tectonic), but there are also weak pulses of tremor and earthquakes associated with internal fluid movements and the degassing.
Vorherige Nachrichten
SO2 plume from Nevado del Ruiz volcano (NOAA)
Montag, Jan 13, 2014
Over the past weeks, the volcano continued to have rather low seismic activity, mainly in the "usual" area S and SE of the Arenas crater at approx 8 km depth. At the surface, the volcano produces intense degassing with a plume sometimes reaching 1.5 km height. [mehr]
Mittwoch, Dez 18, 2013
Volcanic activity at the surface (degassing) and inside (earthquakes) has remained comparably low. ... [mehr]
Seismic signal from Nevado del Ruiz today (OLL station, INGEOMINAS)
Montag, Okt 07, 2013
An earthquake swarm affected the volcano on 7 Oct, including a volcanic-tectonic quake of magnitude 2.7 at 3.2 km depth northeast of the Arenas crater. This could indicate that new magma has been rising into the shallow volcano's conduit, which might (or not) lead to new eruptive activity. [mehr]
Nevado del Ruiz yesterday (INGEOMINAS)
Samstag, Sep 14, 2013
The volcano has had a phase of increased degassing producing an important SO2 plume visible on satellite data. No reports of other unusual activity have become known. [mehr]

Dienstag, Aug 13, 2013
Since the last update, the volcano has been relatively calm with only internal unrest in the form of fluctuating seismic activity. Manizales observatory reports a slight increase during the past week, with earthquakes clustered in the usual location (presumably an area of magma storage) about 3.5 km NE of the Arenas crater at depths between 4-7 km.
