Stromboli Jan 2013 - lava flows

During January 2013, Stromboli produced frequent small and a few larger short-lived lava flows from the breached NE crater which reached about half way down the Sciara del Fuoco. The following photos show the activity between 7-15 Jan.
On 7 Jan 2013, a lava flow descended about 3-400 m from the NE crater, but already had stopped in the afternoon / evening when only the upper portion remained active. (Photo: Tom Pfeiffer)

On 12 Jan, a larger portion of the NE crater rim had collapsed and produced a large ash plume that swept over the island and caused some fear among inhabitants. At the Sciara, rockfalls remained frequent and caused a lot of dust. (Photo: Tom Pfeiffer)
