BeschreibungRausu (Rausu-dake) volcano is an andesitic-to-dacitic stratovolcano with young lava flows on the NW and SE flanks. An older lava flow reached the Sea of Okhotsk about 9 km to the west.
Rausu volcano had a series of explosive eruptions that produced pumice fall and pyroclastic flow layers about 2200, 1400, and 800 years ago. A pyroclastic-flow deposit has been identified that is younger than the 1739 tephra from Tarumai volcano in SW Hokkaido, and older than 1850 AD.
