San Miguel / Chaparrastique volcano (San Salvador): small explosion on Monday
Mittwoch Jan 28, 2015 17:18 | VON: T
Ash plume from San Miguel's eruption on Monday (MARN)A small explosion occurred last Monday at 06:43 morning. Probably phreatic in nature, it was the first eruptive activity since minor ash emissions past July.
According to MARN, falling blocks from the eruption could be heard from people in the vicinity of the volcano. No further eruptions have followed so far, and no significant temperature signal can be detected at the summit, only constant degassing reaching 150-250 m height.
Seismic activity remains relatively low, but sudden explosions of small to moderate size remain a possibility.

The volcano remains restless with seismic activity above background and shows occasional pulsating gas and steam emissions. Overall, activity has been slowly decreasing over the past months. ... [mehr]

Seismic activity, in particular the level of internal vibration (tremor), has increased again at the volcano. This follows a month of lower values detected. [mehr]

New ash emissions occurred on 23 July, similar to the previous such episode on 13 July. Small plumes rose a few 100 m above the crater. Seismic tremor remains high and authorities keep a close watch on the volcano. [mehr]

The volcano continues to produce important gas emissions as well as occasional small ash explosions. Tremor remains at very high levels (20 times above normal), caused by internal fluid movements. The likelihood of new eruptive activity in the near to medium future remains elevated. [mehr]
Montag, Jul 14, 2014
Chaparrastique volcano has started to produce small explosions and significant ash emissions. An increase of the ongoing eruption could occur any time and is expected to occur either from the summit vent or from the northern flank (because earthquakes have been clustered under this part of the volcano during the past months). ...
