Volcano news: Santa Maria (Guatemala)

So, 30 Dez 2012, 11:05
The Santiaguito lava dome has been comparably calm with few or no explosive activity reported during the past days.
Di, 25 Dez 2012, 11:05
3 rumblings, one strong at 20:46 on 24 Dec and two moderate at 03:00 and 05:33 h local time on 25 Dec, were heard. They lasted between 30 to 50 seconds. 2 moderate explosions were observed at 05:58 and 06:02 and expelled gray ash columns to 700 and 800 m height above the lava dome and drifted southwest, causing ash fall on the areas of La Florida and San Marcos Palajunoj. The lava flows remained weakly active and produced few avalanches from the SE lava flow front.
Di, 18 Dez 2012, 11:05
Weak incandescence was seen from the lava dome at night and the lava flows descending its flanks remained active.
Mi, 12 Dez 2012, 11:05
No significant change in activity has occurred. The lava dome is strongly degassing and glowing at night. The viscous flows, especially the new one in the southern side, remain quite active and produce constant avalanches causing ash plumes to rise and drift into westerly directions.
Di, 11 Dez 2012, 06:14
Santiaguito 12/04/2012 (INSIVUMEH)
Activity is dominantly effusive. The new block lava flow that had recently formed on the southern flank of the Caliente dome produces glowing avalanches. The other flows on the SE side remain active as well. Read more...
So, 9 Dez 2012, 07:24
Activity remains dominantly effusive. The lava flows from the dome are still active and generate frequent block avalanches, whirling up fine ash plumes.
Mi, 5 Dez 2012, 02:37
Strong degassing from the dome and a new blocky lava flow entering the notch at the upper crater rim left by the explosions last week were reported by INSIVUMEH. The new flow produces abundant block avalanches causing a fine ash plume drifting W and SW.
Fr, 30 Nov 2012, 12:05
In the recent days, Santiaguito has been producing a number of larger-than-average explosions that caused ash fall in the surrounding areas. Ash plumes from these explosions rose 1.5-3.2 km / 5000-10,000 ft above the lava dome and were sometimes accompanied by small pyroclastic flows. Read more...
Do, 22 Nov 2012, 11:05
The lava flows from the dome remain very active, INSIVUMEH reports. At 06:09 this morning, a moderate pyroclastic flow was triggered by collapsing material of one of the flow fronts on the SE side.
Di, 20 Nov 2012, 11:05
The activity remains at low levels and mainly effusive. There are only few and small explosions and the lava flows from the dome continue to be weakly active.
