On 16 May Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Darwin recorded an explosion that generated a dark ash plume, which reached approx. 46,000 ft (14,000 m) altitude. Volcanic ash is dispersed towards the east and causes ash fall on the volcano's slopes.
Lava flows on the southeast flank remain active, currently about 4,921 ft (1,500 m) long.
Incandescent material is being ejected above Seloko Jongring crater and caused avalanches of material.
The seismic station records 71 volcano-tectonic earthquakes.
The warning bulletin states that ballistic impacts of volcanic bombs and pyroclastic flows could affect an area of about 1 km distance from the main crater and 4 km on the SSE flank.
