Explosive Tätigkeit hält weiterhin an.

Visible lava from Shishaldin volcano (image: Sentinel 2)
Alaska Volcano Observatory reported that seismic tremor at Shishaldin has increased over the past day. Satellite and web camera observations were partly obscured by clouds over the past day but elevated surface temperatures in the summit crater were observed in several clear views. These observations are consistent with elevated unrest, but active lava effusion is less likely to be occurring. ...mehr [alles lesen]

Lava branches on the northwest flank (image: Sentinel 2)
AVO reported that lava is overflowing the summit crater and the lava flow on the northwest flank has increased in length. Satellite data on Sunday afternoon show that the flow has developed two branches, each extending for about 1000 meters (0.62 miles). Volcanic debris flows (lahars) have also increased in length and now extend as far as 2 km (1.2 miles) on the north and south flanks. ...mehr [alles lesen]

Lava filled the crater and overflowed the north crater rim (image: Sentinel 2)
Seismicity and infrasound signals were consistent with low level eruptive activity and a steam plume was persistent. ...mehr [alles lesen]

Satellite data is now showing that the deep summit crater has been filled and lava is starting to flow over the rim with spatter from Strombolian explosions also being deposited. This melted some of the thick ice sending a lahar halfway down the north flank. Elevated seismicity continues. ...mehr

Small steam plume from Shishaldin (image: AVO)
Alaska Volcano Observatory recorded low-level eruptive activity with periodic bursts of lava within the summit crater of Shishaldin and a small steam plume over the past day. ...mehr [alles lesen]

Renewed lava effusion has been detected and is contained within the crater. AVO raised the status to ORANGE/WATCH.

Weakly elevated surface temperatures observed in partly cloudy satellite data over the past day. Weak tremor continues at Shishaldin volcano. ...mehr
Fri, 27 Sep 2019, 21:54
Seismicity at the volcano has decreased over the past few weeks to levels slightly above background. In addition, satellite views of the volcano over the same period show a decrease in surface temperatures at the summit. Eruptive activity appears to have ended or paused. ...mehr
Wed, 7 Aug 2019, 12:05
AVO reported that satellite images of Shishaldin acquired on 28 July showed a small spatter cone with lava flows in the summit crater. During 31 July-6 August continuous weak tremor was recorded by the seismic network and elevated surface temperatures were sometimes visible in satellite images. ...mehr

The new lava lake seen during an overflight. Credit: David Fee, AVO/UAF-GI.
Recent unrest (seismic tremor, thermal anomalies) has increased and a new, very minor eruption is underway. AVO field crews observed a small lava lake inside the deep funnel-shaped summit crater, but the activity has been contained within the crater so far. This is similar to the last eruption in 2014-15. The alert level has been raised to ORANGE/WATCH. A more substantial eruption is possible (like that of 1999) but there is no indication of this occurring so far.
