Shishaldin volcano (Aleutian Islands, Alaska): explosive activitym, alert raised to ORANGE

A short-lived explosion occurred at the volcano yesterday and produced an ash cloud to 20,000 - 25,000 feet, which drifted to the W-NW, the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) reported. Ash emissions can also be seen on today's satellite image attached.

"A tremor burst was observed in seismic data at 7:10 (16:10 UTC) and had a duration of about 3 minutes. Three lightning stroke were detected. Shishaldin remains at Aviation Color Code ORANGE and Alert Level WATCH.
Shishadin remains at a heightened level of unrest and explosions may occur with little warning." (AVO)

Shishaldin Volcano continues to erupt episodically. USGS AVO report that seismic levels were variable throughout the week, with elevated activity early in the week and over the past 36 hours.
