Shiveluch volcano, Kamchatka: pyroclastic flows by partial dome collapse generate ash plumes of 6-7 km altitude

Sonntag Nov 03, 2013 10:29 | VON: T

First of the two pyroclastic flows yesterday at Shiveluch

Second of the two pyroclastic flows yesterday at Shiveluch
Extrusion of viscous lava at the dome continues to feed at least 2 thick lava flows on the SW, NW and NE slopes. Two larger partial dome collapses occurred yesterday, producing pyroclastic flows and ash plumes that rose to altitudes of 23,000 ft (7 km).

The growth of the lava dome continues along with strong degassing/steaming and occasional explosions that produce ash plumes rising to up to 4-6 km altitude. [mehr]
Ash explosion from SHiveluch this morning (KVERT webcam)
Freitag, Okt 18, 2013
As if it was jealous of Klyuchevskoy, the other volcano currently in violent eruption, Shiveluch has increased its activity recently. Dome growth has gained speed again, producing more frequent avalanches as well as explosions. Several explosions occurred during the past 24 hours sending ash plumes to 20-23,000 ft (6-7 km) altitude and drifting east. ... [mehr]
Glowing avalanche from Shiveluch's lava dome half an hour ago (KVERT webcam)
Dienstag, Okt 15, 2013
The lava dome has become more active again, and frequently produces small incandescent avalanches. Strong degassing and occasional ash venting accompany this process. A weak ash plume rose today from the volcano to an altitude of about 12,000 ft, as can be seen on the following video: ... [mehr]

KVERT reports that the "growth of the lava dome continues - strong and moderate ash explosions up to 4-6 km a.s.l., fumarolic activity and incandescence of the dome summit, and hot avalanches accompany this process. Satellite data showed a thermal anomaly over the volcano." [mehr]
