Letzte Nachrichten vom Stromboli Vulkan:
Stromboli volcano (Italy): continuing strong activity from NW vent (field observation)
Sonntag Nov 03, 2013 09:52 | VON: T
Activity has remained similar since our previous visit 9 days ago: most activity is at the NW crater (towards Ginostra), where 3 vents are active and produce mild to strong strombolian explosions (to heights of up to 250 m approx) at rates of one every 5 minutes approximately, mostly from the eastern vent and sometimes from the tall hornito to the north. The eastern vent also shows weak spattering and continuous glow, suggesting a high magma level within its conduit.
No activity was observed from the central crater, and the NE vent activity is weak with infrequent (20-30 minutes intervals) loud gas emissions, and only sometimes lava ejections to heights of 100-150 m.

Activity has picked up during the past week. During a visit yesterday afternoon and evening, we observed frequent and often strong strombolian eruptions from the NW vent (Ginostra side), which had enlarged a lot since early this year. ... [mehr]

According to the local mountain guides from Magmatrek, activity has increased significantly during the past 3 days, especially at the NW vent. A group of VolcanoDiscovery has arrived on the island and will report in more detail in the following days. [mehr]

Our friend Petra who climbed the volcano last night reports that activity is rather low at the moment. There were no explosions observed during the time spent at the summit (about one hour). [mehr]

Activity has been at relatively low to moderate levels recently. Explosions of small to medium size occur regularly from the "usual" (mainly the eastern and western) vents. [mehr]

When observed during 3-6 June, the volcano was at normal levels of activity which had not changed significantly since our last visit 2 weeks ago. On the crater terrace, about 7 active vents were present, with eruptions every about 15-20 minutes: the two vents in the NW crater sometimes erupted simultaneously, one with low ejections of blocks, scoria and ash, the other with loud turbine-like jets of gas and lava fragments that often reached about 250 m height. The hornito at the NW crater rim was not seen erupting. ... [mehr]
