Fuego volcano, Guatemala has increased its activity again. Strong strombolian explosions generated ash plumes rising up to 1 km and ejected blocks up to 200 m above the rim. Incandescent material rolled down the flanks for 500-1000 m and shock waves accompanied the explosions.
Etna volcano as observed this afternoon shows strong degassing with very light ash content from the Bocca Nuova and the pit crater located between the old and new SE crater, the site of infrequent ash emissions over the past 2 weeks or so.
Popocatépetl volcano had 46 weak steam and sometimes ash explosions recorded during the past 24 hours, the larger ones at 12:24 h, 13:56h, and 20:44 h yesterday and 04:59 h local time today. Crater glow is visible at night.
San Cristobal volcano in Nicaragua has been calm the past days. On the seismogram, few weak quakes and long period events are visible.
Lot of seismic activity appears on the seismic recording of Telica volcano including many small quakes and pulses of tremor, suggesting that lava activity in the inner crater is continuing.
Galeras in Colombia has weak tremor pulses and small earthquakes. Some of these events are accompanied by gas and steam emissions sometimes containing ash, as observed on 12, 14 and 18 Sep.
SO2 emission has been at low to intermediate levels.
Weak seismic unrest continues at Cumbal volcano.
Small earthquakes at shallow depth, 25 in total during the past 7 days, continued to occur at Sotará volcano. The quakes are concentrated at 1-6 km depth in an area 1-2 km N of the summit.
Nevado del Huila has had weak volcanic quakes and some tremor pulses during the past 7 days at the volcano. Visible activity is strong degassing with a steam plume rising up to 1 km.
Elevated seismic activity continues at Cerro Machin with 82 events registered over the past 7 days, out of which 45 shallow volcanic quakes up to magnitude 1.3 and frequent tremor pulses of weak energy. Visual observations reveal strong degassing generating a plume rising less than 1 km.
Occasional small explosions with steam and sometimes ash emissions continue to occur at Nevado del Ruiz volcano. There have been shallow earthquakes up to magnitude 1.8 at depths of 1-8 km north of the Arenas crater and weak tremor pulses over the past 7 days.
Activity at Tungurahua volcano has remained low. Steaming could be observed during windows of clear weather, and there are numerous long-period seismic events recorded.
Reventador volcano in Ecuador was seen producing a steam plume rising 2 km. No seismic data are available as the station is damaged.
Little Sitkin volcano showed some elevated seismic activity today.

News are dominated by the strong eruption of Fuego volcano, which has produced impressive and dangerous pyroclastic flows, 2-4 km tall ash columns reaching 24,000 ft (7.2 km) altitude, forced evacuation of 33,000 people yesterday. Today, explosive activity has decreased and the eruption changed to a more effusive style. Several lava flows are active on the southern flanks, threatening to cut local roads. ... [mehr]
