No significant changes occurred, however, during the past week. Even though parameters don't suggest an eruption might be imminent, head vulcanologist Prof. Mauro Coltelli was reported to mention to Italian press that chances of an eruption might be around 50:50.
The latest INGV report on Vulcano summarizes the latest data as follows:
- The temperature of the fumaroles in the crater and on its rims have remained stable, with values around 300-350 deg C for the hottest ones.
- The flux of CO2 in the crater area have increased and are at very high values. CO2 is an early indicator of fresh magma at depth. In addition, the flux of CO2 in the port and village, diffusing from the ground, is also high. An increasing trend is found in the Camping Sicilia site.
- Similarly, SO2 flux in crater area remains high.
- The geochemistry of thermal aquifers displays slightly increasing temperatures and conductivity values are very low. This applies for the wells of Camping Sicilia and in the Bambara well. In the waters of the C. Sicilia wells, Muscarà and Bambara, a significant increase in dissolved carbonate types is observed. Limited only to the well Camping Sicilia, there is also a noticeable increase in temperature, a decrease in pH and salinity.
- Local seismicity shows a decreasing trend. In particular, lower frequency events (VLP) have become more rare.
- Regional seismicity is low as well. Not much deeper movements/fracturing of rocks in the crust or upper mantle have been recorded. Only 1 earthquake with a magnitude of 1.3 occurred in the past week.
Deformation of the ground is showing a trend of expansion. trend from 20 November
- Gravimetry monitoring shows no indication of major deep mass redistributions (i.e. magma movements).

Vulcano volcano (Aeolian Islands, Italy) - Smithsonian / USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report for 17 November-23 November 2021 (Continuing Activity)
According to an order issued by the Municipality of Lipari that went into effect on 22 November, residents within three high-risk zones (with an exception for the Lentia village) on Vulcano were not allowed to stay overnight in their homes between the hours of 2300-0600 due to an increase in carbon dioxide emissions in area to the N of La Fossa Crater. Residents in a lower-risk zone were allowed to stay in their homes but not sleep on the first floor. In addition, non-residents were banned from visiting the island for 30 days except for essential workers. ... Read all
