A magnitude 4.5 earthquake was reported only 4 minutes ago by New Zealand's Earthquake Commission and Geological Survey (GeoNet), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in New Zealand. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10.9 km beneath the epicenter in the morning on Friday 6 November 2020 at 7.26 am local time. The magnitude, exact location of the epicenter, and depth of the quake are likely to be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred after midnight on Friday 6 November 2020 at 12.16 am local time near the village of Pórto Koufó, Greece, as reported by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The magnitude, exact location of the epicenter, and depth of the quake are likely to be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service at VolcanoDiscovery identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.1.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage. Based on preliminary calculations, moderate shaking probably occurred in Pórto Koufó (pop. 100) located 5 km from the epicenter, Toróni (pop. 200) 7 km away, and Sykiá (pop. 1,900) 12 km away.

Just 16 minutes ago, a 3.1-magnitude earthquake struck near the village of Korong Vale, Victoria. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Friday 6 November 2020 at 9.23 am local time, at a shallow depth of 6.2 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by Geoscience Australia (GeoAu), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.1 earthquake as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Korong Vale (pop. 200) located 6 miles from the epicenter.
