Just 9 minutes ago, a 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck near the city of Fergana, Uzbekistan. The tremor was recorded around noon on Friday 6 November 2020 at 1.38 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 5.4 earthquake.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage. Based on preliminary calculations, moderate shaking probably occurred in Fergana (pop. 164,300) located 23 km from the epicenter, Yangi Marg‘ilon (pop. 14,100) 26 km away, Shohimardon (pop. 5,100) 27 km away, and Oltiariq (pop. 25,500) 27 km away.
