Light magnitude 4.7 earthquake 51 km northeast of Kŭlob, Tajikistan

4.7 quake 23 km east of Mŭ’minobod, Tajikistan, 17 Nov 12.35 pm (GMT +5)
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter around noon on Tuesday 17 November 2020 at 12.35 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service at VolcanoDiscovery identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.7 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. Weak shaking might have been felt in Mŭ’minobod (pop. 12,000) located 23 km from the epicenter, Kŭlob (pop. 78,800) 51 km away, Sovet (pop. 8,700) 62 km away, Vose’ (pop. 21,700) 68 km away, Chubek (pop. 19,600) 78 km away, Roghun (pop. 7,700) 80 km away, Danghara (pop. 22,800) 83 km away, and Vahdat (pop. 45,700) 121 km away.
