Light 4.3 quake hits near Bayamón, Puerto Rico

An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred only 14 minutes ago 93 km southwest of Bayamón, Puerto Rico, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.

The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter in the morning on Sunday 22 November 2020 at 7.28 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service at VolcanoDiscovery identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.3 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. Weak shaking might have been felt in Indios (pop. 1,700) located 18 km from the epicenter, Maria Antonia (pop. 1,500) 19 km away, Guánica (pop. 9,200) 19 km away, Tallaboa (pop. 1,200) 20 km away, Guayanilla (pop. 5,200) 21 km away, and Ponce (pop. 152,600) 28 km away.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Caguas (pop. 86,800) located 92 km from the epicenter, and Bayamón (pop. 203,500) 93 km away.
