Light 4.4 quake hits near La Ligua, Chile

Just 21 minutes ago, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Illapel, Chile. The tremor was recorded late at night on Wednesday 25 November 2020 at 11.51 pm local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 48.6 km below the surface.

The event was filed by the National Seismological Center of the University of Chile, the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Illapel (pop. 22,800) located 14 km from the epicenter, Salamanca (pop. 13,300) 22 km away, and La Ligua (pop. 24,900) 77 km away.
