Light 4.2 quake hits near Puerto Escondido, Mexico

Just 27 minutes ago, a 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Puerto Escondido, Mexico. The tremor was recorded around noon on Monday 30 November 2020 at 12.08 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 9 km below the surface.

The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in El Jicaro (pop. 260) located 26 km from the epicenter, Puerto Escondido (pop. 25,900) 27 km away, El Venado (pop. 150) 28 km away, Cerro Hermoso (pop. 380) 39 km away, Santa Maria Tiltepec (pop. 2,200) 40 km away, and Juan Diego (pop. 540) 41 km away.
