Just 5 minutes ago, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Nicoya, Provincia de Guanacaste, Costa Rica. The tremor was recorded around noon on Friday 4 December 2020 at 12.10 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 26 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (INETER), the first seismological agency to report it.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Nicoya (pop. 15,300) located 109 km from the epicenter, and Santa Cruz (pop. 12,300) 116 km away.
