Just 5 minutes ago, a 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Cobb, Lake County, California, USA. The tremor was recorded in the evening on Wednesday 30 December 2020 at 8:22 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 1.3 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.6 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Cobb (pop. 1,800) located 5 miles from the epicenter, Kelseyville (pop. 3,400) 10 miles away, Clear Lake Riviera (pop. 3,100) 10 miles away, and Cloverdale (pop. 8,800) 11 miles away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Clearlake (pop. 15,200) located 13 miles from the epicenter, Hidden Valley Lake (pop. 5,600) 14 miles away, Lakeport (pop. 4,800) 15 miles away, and Healdsburg (pop. 11,700) 16 miles away.

A magnitude 4.3 earthquake near Sarangani, Davao Occidental, Davao, Philippines, was reported only 12 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at an intermediate depth of 129 km beneath the epicenter in the morning on Thursday 31 December 2020 at 7:02 am local time.
